General Strike in Solidarity with Gaza
Activists in several countries called for a general global strike in solidarity with the Gaza Strip, which has been subjected to brutal aggression for more than two months now, leading to the martyrdom of about 18,000 Palestinians, most of them are women and children, and the injury of tens of thousands of civilians.
A large number of activists and influencers interacted with the hashtag #StrikeForGaza, which swept social media, in a call to strike all over the world to denounce the usurping entity’s massacres against the Palestinians in Gaza.
Palestinian and human rights organizations have called for a strike worldwide on Monday, December 11. It was stated that it is necessary to paralyze the movement of life and the economic wheel in all countries, so that everyone feels directly affected by the aggression on Gaza, and thus pressure is exerted to stop the war.
International Union of Muslim Scholars:
In this context, Dr. Ali Al-Qaradaghi, Secretary-General of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, said: He calls for broad participation in the strike, stressing that the current events in the Gaza Strip call for solidarity, and to come together to support the Palestinian cause and stop the unjust war against it.
He pointed out, in a statement on his account on the “X”: “the call launched by the International Union of Muslim Scholars for a comprehensive global strike reflects comprehensive awareness of the importance of the participating in this issue, and carries a strong message to the entire world.”
Lebanon:
Yesterday, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati issued a decision to close public institutions, Monday, in solidarity with the global general strike for Gaza, while Lebanese universities announced the cessation of their university activities today in solidarity with Gaza and with southern Lebanon, which is subjected to the aggression of the usurping entity.
Mauritania:
The Mauritanian Parliament announced the postponement of its activities today, Monday, in response to the comprehensive global strike, and the Chairman of the Parliament’s Finance Committee informed the parliamentary members of the Committee of the postponement of two hearings that were scheduled. The response included official and union bodies in various sectors, in addition to markets and private educational institutions. The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced the postponement of all lessons, ongoing tests, and examinations scheduled for Monday, December 11, 2023, for a period of 24 hours.
UNRWA in Jordan:
The facilities of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Jordan considered Monday a day of a general and comprehensive strike.
This came based on the decision of the Agency General Conference that Monday, 12/11/2023, be a general and comprehensive strike day. The strike includes all of the Agency’s facilities in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip.
The agency/Jordan branch issued a memo to all its affiliated facilities, including schools and health centers, to commit to the strike, calling on employees and students to remain at home.
West Bank – Palestine:
Vital services provided to Palestinian refugees in the West Bank, such as health, education and environmental health, have largely stopped in response to the massive strike in solidarity with Gaza, while escalation increases daily in the West Bank, including East of Al-Quds.
Ramallah – Palestine:
In the same context, the national and Islamic forces in Ramallah and Al-Bireh in the Palestinian territories announced that, Monday, is a comprehensive strike for all aspects of life.
Syria-Golan:
The people of the occupied Syrian Golan announced a general, comprehensive strike, united with the global general strike, against the aggressive approach of the usurping entity, which violated all human and moral values, and in solidarity with Al-Quds, Gaza, and the West Bank.
Meanwhile, the usurping entity continues its barbaric attacks on the Gaza Strip and southern Lebanon, targeting civilians and the defenseless, women and children, using internationally prohibited weapons and imposing a stifling siege on the Strip, ignoring all international appeals calling for an end to its ongoing massacres and attacks against the Palestinians in particular and humanity in general.
