Amid the ruins of schools and the wreckage of homes across Gaza, joyous ululations echoed a rare sound of happiness after two years of genocide and siege. The announcement of the high school exam results turned into a moment of hope, breathing life back into a city exhausted by bombardment, hunger, and displacement.
Despite power cuts, lack of internet, and constant fear, Gaza’s students pursued their studies with determination that mirrors the spirit of their people. “I never imagined I’d be happy today,” said Mohammad Al-Shafi’i (18), from Al-Nuseirat camp. “Every day I feared the exam would stop because of the bombing, but I made it this is the happiest moment of my life despite everything.”
In tents and shattered classrooms, students reviewed their lessons by candlelight, while mothers prepared their children for exams as if life were normal. When the results were announced, smiles broke through the tears a declaration that education in Gaza remains alive, against all odds.
The Ministry of Education announced plans for a field survey to assess schools, teachers, and facilities, and to rebuild the educational sector to ensure safe learning conditions.
The success of Gaza’s students is more than academic achievement; it is a triumph of will over war proof that even amid the rubble, this people still believe in the future, and continues to build it.
