In the midst of the ongoing bloodshed committed by the occupying entity in Gaza, the suffering of medical staff in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon intensifies, as these compassionate hands have become direct targets of assaults by the usurping entity’s army.
While the Gaza Ministry of Health announced the martyrdom of 1,000 citizens in the besieged northern Gaza Strip over the past 23 days, it indicated itsunawareness of the fate of 30 medical workers who were detained by the occupation from Kamal Adwan Hospital.
The Ministry of Health confirmed yesterday that the occupation army arrested all male medical staff at Kamal Adwan Hospital, in addition to several injured patients, appealing to all international and humanitarian organizations for urgent intervention to protect patients and health personnel.
The World Health Organization also stated that “the occupation attacked Kamal Adwan Hospital, the last functioning hospital in northern Gaza, and arrested 44 male staff members, leaving only one female staff member, the hospital director, and one doctor to care for approximately 200 patients in urgent need of treatment.” The organization noted that “the entire health system in Gaza has been under attack for over a year,” emphasizing the need to protect hospitals from conflicts at all times and stating that any attack on healthcare facilities constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law.
In Lebanon, which is witnessing another chapter of this tragedy, the toll of martyrs in the health sector has risen to 168 martyrs and 275 injured since the beginning of the occupying entity’s aggression against the country in October 2023. Additionally, 55 hospitals have been attacked, 36 of which were directly targeted, leading to the forced closure of eight hospitals.
The clear truth remains that health workers in Gaza and Lebanon face unimaginable challenges, and they draw with their blood a story of endless giving. Their targeting is not merely a violation of their rights; it is an assault on humanity and a breach of all international organizations, Human rights institutions and conventions that stipulate the protection of medical personnel, the injured, as well as hospitals.
