The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics said: “The total number of Palestinians has increased about 10 times since 1948 inside and outside of Palestine.”

The Central Bureau of Statistics explained, “Despite the displacement of about one million Palestinians in 1948 and more than 200,000 Palestinians after the setback of June 1967, the total number of Palestinians in the world reached 14.63 million at the end of 2023.”

According to the statement, the Palestinians are distributed as follows:

7,250,000 reside inside Palestine, including about 1,750,000 in the territories occupied in 1948.

6,650,000 in Arab countries.

772,000 in the rest of the world.

The statement explained that in 1948, “the “Israeli” occupation took control of 774 Palestinian villages and cities, 531 of which were completely destroyed, while the remaining villages were forcibly subjected to the usurping entity.”

“This cleansing process was accompanied by the Zionist gangs committing more than 70 massacres against the Palestinians, which led to the martyrdom of more than 15,000 Palestinians.”

GCRP took the initiative to popularize the term “Day of Return” as an alternative to the expression “Nakba Day,” which has been prevalent since 1948, in order to get rid of the negative connotations that the concept of “Nakba” carries, and to ensure the importance of initiative, responsibility, solidarity, organization, steadfastness, sacrifice, and other positive meanings that the concept “Return” might carry.

On “Return Day,” members of the global campaign to return to Palestine carry out various forms of activities on the ground and electronic activities, such as holding real and virtual seminars, organizing vigils and sit-ins in front of the embassies of countries with influence on the Palestinian issue, and broadcasting statements by some prominent figures in the world, in support of the Palestinian right of return.
