In the heart of the Gaza Strip, solid waste creeps like heavy shadows, disturbing the horizon and suffocating the air due to the genocidal war committed by the usurping entity in the Strip.

The amount of waste is increasing, becoming a problem that is affecting homes, streets, and even health.

The Gaza Municipality has confirmed that about 300,000 tons of waste are accumulating in the city’s streets, in various regions and cities of the Gaza Strip, which exacerbates the catastrophic health and environmental conditions in which the city is experiencing.

UNRWA Director of Information, Enas Hamdan, explained a few days ago that there is a health crisis resulting from the scarcity of medical supplies and medicines, in addition to the worsening environmental crisis, due to the accumulation of solid waste, water pollution, and high temperatures.

World Health Organization spokesman Tarik Yasarevich said: Garbage, along with high temperatures and a lack of clean drinking water and sanitation services, increase the risk of disease.

He added: “This could lead to the emergence of a number of infectious diseases,” noting that about 470,000 cases of diarrhea have been recorded since the beginning of the war.

The administrative and medical director of the Al-Sahaba Medical Complex, Naeem Ayoub, confirmed that “environmental and health reasons in the Gaza Strip are fully prepared for the emergence of infectious diseases and deadly epidemics such as cholera, measles…”

Questions are rising and suffering is increasing: How long would the people of Gaza have to bear the burden of this worsening and unprecedented environmental disaster?
